1978 Security Council

The 1978 special security council is a committee that was newly introduced as a tribute to the 45th anniversary of CACMUN, to take a look into the past and recall the events that happened the year our conference was founded. 1978 was one of the most salient years in terms of international events.

A number of significant events occurred in 1978, including the conclusion of the Japan-China Treaty of Peace and Friendship, an agreement on the normalization of diplomatic relations between the United States and China, the creation of a basic framework for peace in the Middle East by the United States, Egypt, and Israel, and progress in the second Strategic Arms Limitation Talks (SALT-II).

But, there were other actions that had the potential to disrupt the international situation, such as the escalation of hostilities between China and Vietnam and between Vietnam and Cambodia against the backdrop of Sino-Soviet enmity and the surprise uprising in Iran.

Topic 1: Setting measures to establish a comprehensive peace agreement between Arab nations and the State of Israel

Topic 2: Question of implementing a sustainable peace agreement between the Somali Democratic Republic and the People’s Democratic Republic of Ethiopia
